FBC Madison: A Multicultural Mission and Urban Renewal

Under the leadership of Pastor Sergio, Madison First Baptist Church (FBC) has embraced a vibrant multicultural approach. Recognizing the growing diversity within its community, the church actively fosters unity among members from various ethnic backgrounds. Approximately one-third of the congregation is Spanish-speaking, and the church provides Spanish translations during services and displays both English and Spanish song lyrics to ensure inclusivity for all worshippers.

Madison FBC emphasizes building meaningful connections within the congregation. Members are encouraged to participate in connect groups that align with their language preferences, fostering a sense of belonging and promoting deeper spiritual growth within a shared faith. The church’s revitalization journey was significantly impacted by a four-year partnership with First Baptist Church Hendersonville. This partnership provided crucial financial support, valuable leadership guidance, and resulted in Pastor Sergio’s appointment as their Revitalization Pastor. Although the formal partnership has concluded, Madison FBC continues its long-term revitalization efforts, acknowledging that sustainable change often requires a 7-10 year commitment. Pastor Sergio envisions a multigenerational, multicultural church that accurately reflects the diverse community it serves.

Pastor Sergio emphasizes a four-step discipleship process:

Recognizing the importance of reaching the African American population in Madison, Pastor Sergio is exploring potential partnerships with local African American churches to further enrich the church’s ministry and impact. Outreach initiatives are a cornerstone of Madison FBC’s ministry. The church actively engages in community outreach through various avenues:

• Door-to-door prayer offers: Sharing the Gospel and building relationships within the community.
• Visitor follow-up: Nurturing connections with new attendees through personalized outreach.
• English as a Second Language (ESL) and Spanish as a Second Language (SSL) classes: Providing valuable language learning opportunities to the community.
• Partnering with Elevate Ministries and Be Blessed Ministries to provide meals and clothing, as Pastor Sergio offers a weekly message of hope to the homeless population.
