Darrell’s Bio:
Born to Barry and Valerie Hon in 1982, they raised me in a traditional Christian household with three older sisters. In addition to the local Baptist church we attended up the hill, we visited large churches across the nation and world, including the Rhema Bible Church in Oklahoma and Rhema Ministries in South Africa. Notable evangelists such as Reinhardt Bonnke and Ray McCauley were not only family friends but were welcome guests in our home. As a child I loved watching Reinhardt preach the Gospel more than any other sermon. Much to his amusement, I even imitated his explanation of the Holy Spirit as a “miniature thermonuclear power station.”
As I grew and matured, I learned to appreciate Christ for all Nations. Reinhardt’s vision has always been uniquely compelling, to see Africa bathed in the blood of Christ. Hell plundered. Heaven populated. Of all the ministries my family has supported, this one was the one that resonated with me the most.
I attended Capistrano Valley Christian School through the 8th grade, followed by Saint Margaret’s Episcopal School through the 12th before attending the University of California Irvine campus for my undergraduate degree. While attending university I met and soon after married my wife, Candice, on September 14th, 2001, and have always been grateful that my college life was spent as a married man and not some wandering youth.
Matrimony granted me the perspective to refocus my career and take my father’s lessons seriously. After graduating university, I joined Hon Development under Barry’s leadership and guidance alongside my sister Deborah. Together we learned about commercial real estate, infrastructure, and the political side of zoning and construction. In 2016 Candice and I moved to Tennessee to expand Hon Development’s territorial operations. I recently accepted the position of President from my father. Under my leadership we are developing Magnolia Grove, a 300-lot subdivision in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and have secured commercial property in La Vergne, Tennessee as well as nearly five hundred acres of residential land in Christiana, Tennessee, and shall continue pursuing additional projects.
Most importantly, my wife and I became parents on June 20, 2024, with the birth of our daughter, Midori. Now more than ever I am driven to not only pursue my own dreams for a better life but to ensure that the world and life I leave behind for my daughter is the safest, best version of the world I can make it, and to do that requires more power and vision than I can contain within myself. Most of all, it requires Jesus Christ carved into the hearts of more people than ever before in the history of the world. If I could play a small part in bringing that future closer, then I could one day rest knowing that the world my daughter inherits is in many ways better than the one that was left to me.
